Networking during the holidays

With Thanksgiving just two days away, I wanted to remind you that holidays are a perfect opportunity for networking! Recent research suggests that at least 60% of all jobs are found through networking. If you’re searching for a job, you need to make sure you use all your available networks, and friends and family are some of the most valuable.

In my book, Step 4 Create a network provides many tips (14, to be precise) that can help you build your network, but the first in that section tip is “Use your family and friends as networking sources.” This doesn’t mean that you’re going to go to every holiday meal with a stack of resumes and a canned speech, but when Aunt Sarah asks you what you’re going to do after college or how the job search is going, be prepared to let her know the kind of job you want to land and ask for her help.
